Terms of Use
Last updated 4 October 2026
These terms govern your use of the Scam Check website and WhatsApp assistant (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to them. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy and Disclaimer.
What the Service is
Scam Check is a free, informational consumer-protection tool. It helps you recognise phishing and scams by letting you check suspicious links and by publishing examples of scams targeting South Africans. It is an awareness aid — not a security product, bank, law-enforcement agency, or professional adviser.
No guarantee — use your own judgement
We work hard to be accurate, but the Service is provided “as is” and we cannot guarantee that it is complete, correct or up to date. A result of “not seen before” does not mean a link is safe, and the absence of a warning is not a guarantee. Always verify directly with the organisation involved, using their official app or a contact number you already trust.
Not professional advice
Nothing on the Service is legal, financial, security or other professional advice. You remain responsible for your own decisions. If you think you have been scammed, contact your bank’s fraud line and the relevant authorities.
Acceptable use
- Use the Service only to check messages or links you have genuinely received or encountered.
- Don’t use it to test, develop, host or distribute scams, malware or phishing.
- Don’t attempt to disrupt, overload or reverse-engineer the Service, or use it unlawfully.
- Don’t submit other people’s personal information unnecessarily.
Brand names
We refer to brands, banks and organisations only to describe and warn about scams that impersonate them. All trademarks belong to their respective owners. Scam Check is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any of the brands mentioned.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Scam Check and the people behind it are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service — including any scam, fraud or financial loss. Your use of the Service is at your own risk.
Availability
The Service may change, be interrupted, or be withdrawn at any time without notice.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service means you accept the current version.
