Informational only

Scam Check is an awareness and early-warning service. The information we provide is for general guidance to help you avoid scams. It is not a substitute for your own caution or for advice from your bank, a security professional or the authorities.

“Not seen” does not mean safe

Scams appear and disappear constantly. If we haven’t seen a link before, it simply means it isn’t yet in our records — it may still be dangerous. Treat every unexpected link or message with caution.

We don’t open links for you

When you check a link, we look it up against our records and security scans. We do not open the link on your device or ours. Suspicious pages are captured safely through urlscan.io rather than visited directly.

Never share secrets

No legitimate bank or company will ask you to confirm your PIN, password or one-time code (OTP) through a link or message. Scam Check will never ask you for these either. If anyone does, it is a scam.

Independence

We are not affiliated with any bank, retailer, government agency or other brand we mention. We name them only to describe scams that impersonate them.

If you’ve been scammed

  • Phone your bank’s fraud line immediately (use the number on your card).
  • Change any password or PIN you may have shared.
  • Report it to SAPS and to SABRIC (the South African Banking Risk Information Centre).
